Riverbend Malt House
“Malt on a Mission”
Since becoming one the southeast’s very first maltsters in 2010, Riverbend Malt House is now recognized as the region’s premier craft malthouse – offering a range of flavor-forward specialty malts, and heritage heirloom grains.
Made from grain that is sourced within 500 miles of their malt house, Riverbend’s commitment to sustainability and community are main drivers in their malt’s overall quality – transparently building long term, trusting relationships with farmers from seed to malthouse…to our distillery.
Malting The Flavor of Appalachia
Since 2016, the Chattanooga Whiskey team has collaborated with Riverbend on nearly a dozen unique specialty malt projects. From high-kilned wheat & rye malts; to one-off specialty smoked malts; to hybrid malts like triticale, the Riverbend’s maltsters carefully match their grain’s “terroir” with the flavor goals of our whiskey. This approach not only provides our distilling team with their own regionally-influenced flavor profile, but also allows each grain to speak to our Tennessee High Malt process.
Today, Riverbend malts have increasingly become an integral part of our recipe development process at both Chattanooga Whiskey distilleries. From Experimental Batches like “Appalachian Grist”; to Experimental Single Barrels; to distillery collaborations yet to be revealed; each of our Riverbend-included recipes aims to showcase the best our growing region has to offer.
